Paris: Open Studio Exhibition
After taking a 15 year break from doing sculpting this was the first step to embarking on my new journey as an artist. First when the invitations went out I felt overwhelmed with excitement and anticipation. The thing about exhibiting in a foreign country is that one knows nobody. I was however super surprised and so pleased that one of our old school friends who lives in Belgium decided to come. It was such a wonderful gesture and it gave me a sense of calmness … at least one person would be there.
The exhibition turned out to be a roaring success. I proudly report that the Cité police amicably came and chucked out my guests at 10:30pm. It was a momentous moment for me to know that the event made such a visible beep on the radar. I think here were about 50-60 people in total who arrived in relay. My floors shone. Really shone-shone. I appeased my fears, excitement and anticipation in advance with a generous self-serving of vin rouge, and I could not have asked for a better evening. I’m delighted to show you some of the photos of the evening.
After the exhibition I stayed on for another 10 days in Paris where I blissfully continued to fill and delight my soul with the amazing art galleries, cathedrals, bookshops, markets and the breath-taking environment that Paris has on offer. A palpable calm and joy permeates the air – when you breathe in deeply, you can almost taste it. It is slight and subtle, it settles in the back of your mouth and it tastes sweet and it reminds me of nougat.
